France and Germany oppose officially Bulgaria and Romania's joining Schengen. In a common letter, written by German and French Interior ministers addressed to the European Interior Affairs Commissioner, Cecilia Malmstrom, they say that if Romania and Bulgaria would join Schengen in March 2011, this would be premature, RFI informs.

Not all conditions requirement to join Schengen are complied with, the two ministers wrote in the letter which RFI Romania read. They talk about problems related to security and justice, corruption and organized crime. It is not possible not to consider these problems, which the EC also reported through the monitoring mechanism.

These problems could have serious consequences on the internal security of the EU, Brice Hortefeux and Thomas de Maiziere write, due to the influence they can have on the border and for access to Schengen's database.

Therefore, to ignore the problems observed will be neither realistic neither responsible, the two conclude.
