Pitesti Appellate Court judges on Wednesday the appeal formulated by Nicolescu’s lawyers against the measure to temporary arrest him. On January 27, Arges County Council President Constantin Nicolescu was temporary arrested for 29 days, accused of EU funds fraud. After the meeting, Nicolescu was immediately transported to the hospital, as he suffered a cerebral stroke.

UPDATE 1:15 PM Nicolescu’s lawyers claim prosecutors arrested them without evidence, based on the arguments of prosecutors.

UPDATE 1 PM Nicolescu’s lawyer: even though he committed the crimes he is accused of, he should not have been arrested. We should consider all the good things he has done for Arges.

UPDATE 12:25 PM Nicolescu’s lawyers requested to replace his arrest with the interdiction to leave country.

UPDATE 12:40 PM Nciolescu’s lawyers claim he is not guilty of frauding EU funds because the documents were signed by the Education and Integration ministries. If Nicolescu is arrested, others should be also.

UPDATE 12:00 PMThe hearing started, without the presence of Nicolescu. Judges received an official address from the Bucharest Floreasca Hospital.

Arges County Council President Nicolescu is accused of taking over 900,000 euro from Phare EU funds based on false documents and attributed the contract to a family company. Nicolescu is not in prison, he is hospitalized in Bucharest, at the Floreasca Hospital where he was operated. In the night he was temporary arrested, Nicolescu suffered a cerebral stroke.
