The government rejects the introduction of civil partnership in the national legislation which legalizes same sex unions motivating that the only family relationship admitted by the Civil Code is different sex unions, news agency Mediafax reports quoting a governmental document.

The Executive will send its opinion to the Parliament as a response to the legislative initiative of Democratic Liberal deputy Viorel Arion, in which he proposed a legal status with all judicial effects drawn from to civil partnerships. The draft offers a legal character to unions between two people, as an alternative to marriage by signing a contract at the notary which rules on rights and obligations regarding spending and common goods.

The draft law however does not mention that the civil partnerships should be allowed only between different sex unions and thus allows implicitly same sex unions.
