The Prime Minister would be an independent, a finance man but things are more complicated because the party would vote for Blaga, HotNews.ro sources declared. Cristian Popa, Romania’s Central Bank deputy governor might be proposed as Prime Minister to the Democratic Liberal parliamentary group leaders and all left is for Basescu to convince the party, sources said.

UPDATESources within the National Central Bank declared for HotNews.ro that it is almost impossible for Central Bank officials to be nominated for a Prime Minister position. According to sources, Cristian Popa reacted nervously to the information according to which his name was or would be taken into account for the PM position, rejecting this hypothesis firmly.

According to quoted sources, old leaders in the party refuse an independent Prime Minister on grounds that the party needs to be represented in the government. Several leaders close to Blaga apparently proposed him as Prime Minister but Blaga refused.

Sources said that Basescu does not want Blaga for Prime Minister either.
