Bucharest Court tried on Tuesday, February 15, the ninth term trial of the case involving Romanian businessman and media mogul Sorin Ovidiu Vantu who is accused of favoring Romanian fugitive Nicolae Popa escaping a 15 year sentence in Romania. Vantu demanded the judge’s replacement on grounds that the father of the magistrates was one of the victims of the financial engineering company that was lead by Vantu, FNI, and that left hundreds of thousands of Romanians without their lifesavings. Vantu left the trial accusing pains in his foot but declared that he will hunt down President Basescu.

The trial was suspended for Wednesday, February 16th when a decision will be made regarding the judge. The businessman made it very clear that he does not trust the judge to be impartial and refused to make any more statements if she prezides. He said that for the press, the trial could continue without his presence.

Moreover, his lawyers asked the judge to allow the businessman to leave as he is in pain from his foot injury.
