Romania’s adhesion to Schengen will not be postponed because of Bulgaria, Bulgarian Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee President Dobroslav Dimitrov declared in an interview for Romanian news agency Agerpres. He expressed hope that the two countries will join Schengen during Hungary’s Presidency of the EU. Meanwhile, Bulgarian and Romanian Foreign Affairs Committees will adopt on Wednesday a common declaration on Schengen.

Joining Schengen is a priority of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU and we hope that we will join Schengen until Hungary leaves the European executive, the Bulgarian official declared. According to the Romanian Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee President Attila Korodi, this declaration will not reflect the critical spirit related to Schengen, but it represents an instrument of the Parliamentary activity.

The declaration will be signed as the two Parliamentary committees from Bulgaria and Romania will meet on Wednesday at Giurgiu and at Ruse. Present at talks will be Belgium, Hungarian and Polish Ambassadors accredited to Romania and Bulgaria together with Romania’s Ambassador to Sofia, Anton Pacuretu and Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Bucharest, Valentin Radomirski.
