About 100 Romanians requested Romania’s Embassy to Tripoli support to leave Libya and another 350 Romanians requested consular assistance. Those wishing to leave the country were directed by the consular service towards airlines that still fly to and from the country, Romania’s Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Doris Mircea declared for HotNews.ro. She announced that there were no cases of Romanians wounded in the Libyan violence. Currently, there are 47 mixed families of which one of their members is Romanian.

The number of all Romanians living in Libya is unknown and according to the ministry official, most Romanians in Libya are employed at Romanian or foreign companies, most in the constructions and oil sector. Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry recommends all Romanians present in Libya to use the still existent means to leave the country.

The ministry opened a hotline where all Romanians affected by the situation in Libya can call, including those who need consular assistance. The number is 0040 21 31 92 137. For now, the number can be reached between 10 am to 6 PM.
