Stick out your finger and you hit elements of corruption, Romanian President Traian Basescu said at an Interior and Administration Ministry event on Tuesday. He said that by looking at the country map one can see where the police is tolerant of organized crime groups. Basescu that two ministries of the whole government system failed to reform over the past 20 years: the Finance Ministry and the Interior and Administration Ministry.

All restructuring processes in the Interior Ministry were limited to a joke served to politicians and the people, he said.

According to President Basescu, the only way the Ministry can truly reform would be on the basis of a man-by-man evaluation so that only competent, untainted personnel remain in the central and territorial units of the ministry. Otherwise, the reorganization of the ministry would remain a tale.
