Timis customs police chief, Cornel Iures resigned on Wednesday and representatives of the institution saying that it was a unilateral act. Also on Wednesday, a control targeting the managerial activity for 2009 – 2010 is conducted, Romanian news agency Mediafax reports.

According to judicial sources, together with Iures, another five officers resigned including his deputy and two chiefs. Cornel Iures became chief of the Timis customs police in February 2010 replacing Dorel Andras, who advanced in his career.

In February, about 140 customs and police officers were picked up by investigators after a massive raid at customs in Timis and Caras Severin. 93 customs and police officers were arrested from Naidas, Caras Severing, Foeni and Moravita in Timis, West Romania.
