Romania is not in the situation to be sanctioned for exceeding dust values even though in 2010 most polluted cities were Bucharest, Tg. Jiu, Rovinari, Suceava and Timisoara, Romania’s Environment minister Laszlo Borbely declared. Currently Romania is not liable to pay for exceeding dust parameters but we need to find ways to cut the values, Borbely said.

He said in 2010 standards were exceeded in Bucharest, Tg. Jiu, Rovinari, Suceava, Timisoara due to mainly traffic and residential heating. The European Commission announced last week the decision to send an informed request for not respecting standards on air quality. Our country has 60 days to comply with the requirements, otherwise the Commission will forward the case of the European Court of Justice.
