The 2015 deadline set by Romanian authorities to join the euro zone is a mobilizing factor, President of the EC Representation in Romania, Niculae Idu said in an interview for RFI Romania. The official added that joining the euro zone would bring about more benefits than concerns.

Idu considers that it is tough to make any predictions for the economy since the evolutions are very complex not just in Romania but on the European and global level. What is important is for Romanian authorities to respect the deadline set because it will mobilize resources and create more ambitious plans, he said.

He said that joining the euro zone is not an objective in itself but the main objective is to have the economy lined up, including the financial and monetary infrastructure, to the EU standards. Plus, he said joining the euro zone would bring more predictability and health to the Romanian economy.
