The semi-wild horses at Padurea Letea, that were about to be sacrificed in a slaughter house in Sfantu Gheorghe which triggered a scandal in the media were adopted by the Vier Pfoten Foundation, Braila prefect Dumitru Popa announced on Monday. Currently, the animals are in a farm in the county.

The horses are currently checked by a vet: those healthy will be handed to the foundation and those who are sick will be lead to an authorized slaughter house, Popa said. He said that the foundation will pay for everything and they will find new locations for them. The scandal related to the horses found in the protection area of the Danube Delta started last week after several NGOs released images with injured horses and weak ones.

The social networks abounded in messages about the massacre of the horses and desperate calls for petitions to the authorities.
