Judge Mona Pivniceru was elected on Friday as member of the Superior Council of Magistracy as representative of the Higher Court of Justice. Pivniceru received 49 votes while her main countercandidate, judge Gabriela Barsan received 47 votes. In the first round Pivniceru received 32 votes and Barsan 37.

Pivniceru has been a judge for 22 years. Since 2009 she is President of the Magistrates Association in Romania. She was named at the Higher Court in 2010. Friday, June 24, elections for the places left vacant in the Superior Council of Magistracy are being organized. The three places will be replaced by representatives from the appellate court, prosecutors and Higher Court of Justice.
