Social Democrat senator Antonie Iorgovan died on Thursday morning, suffering from an advanced form of cancer. Representatives of the lawyers cabinet "Iorgovan & Associates" confirmed at noon the news about the senator's death.

The Senate session was interrupted for a moment of silence.

The senator died during the night after a heart and lung failure caused by a pancreas cancer.

Antonie Iorgovan was a professor in the Bucharest University until 1972, then turned to Law and became a lawyer, until 1996. He entered the Romanian parliament at independent in 1990 and activated for a while in the Liberal group. He was also the chief of the Constitution Commission.
