IT&C product prices in Romanian stores are up by 7 RON starting Monday, April 30 with the introduction of a new “green tax” buyers must pay to cover costs of collection and recycling of disposed electric and electronic equipment, an Environment Ministry press release says.

For a start, the tax is applied for computing and telecom equipment such as printers, personal and portable computers, copiers, faxes, wired and mobile telephones.

No tax will be applied on smaller systems such as keyboard and mouse.

The cost of the tax must be shown along the respective products in stores across the country so that buyers know what the money is paid for and to make sure the resulting funds are not redirected to other purposes.

The organization that will manage the dispose electric and electronic equipments is Eco Tic, a non-profit organization which will take over the responsibilities bore in this regard by IT&C producers in Romania.
