The average net salary fell 16.5% in January 2007 compared to December 2006, down to 918 RON, the National Statistics Institute announced on Tuesday. The highest average salaries were reported in the financial contracts sector (2454 RON), while the lowest in the non-furniture wood industry (544 RON).

The average net salary also fell considerably (over 30%) in the tobacco industry, public administration, transport-related activities including tourism. It lost between 20-30% in education, financial intermediaries, radio, TV and telecom equipment industry, forestry and related activities, electricity, heat, natural gas and water supplies.

The statistics show that the nominal net average salary gains rose 11.1% in January on month-to-month basis.
