The Pirelli group’s intentions to relocate a tyres-production unit to Romania sparked some tensions in Italy as the employees feared they lost their jobs. The local authorities of the Tuscany town where the unit is located intervened and asked the Pirelli management to bear talks regarding the future of factory and of the 500 employees of the unit.

Pirelli has already moved some equipment to the southern Romanian town of Slatina following the talks with the Romanian authorities to open a branch here. According to the plans announced in the beginning of the year, Pirelli intends to open in Romania one of the biggest capacity plant in Europe.
