Temperatures are rising above 35 degrees Celsius in the shadow in many parts of Romania for one more day on Tuesday with media reports of up to 60 degrees Celsius at foot level in the concrete-heavy cities across the country.

Five people died during several days of extreme heat that according to weather officials have been affecting 18 counties in Western and South Romania.

The counties that received weather warnings as early as Sunday are Arad, Bihor, Braila, Bucuresti, Buzau, Caras-Severin, Calarasi, Dolj, Galati, Giurgiu, Ialomita, Ilfov, Mehedinti, Olt, Satu Mare, Timisoara, Teleorman, Vrancea.

Authorities have recommended Romanians minimal sun exposal and other options for protection, while Agriculture minister Gheorghe Flutur warned forest owners about increasing risks of fires.
