The number of bird flu hotbeds in Romania reached 116 on Wednesday as authorities announced the discovery of two new spots in the counties of Brasov and Ialomita.

The announcement, made by the head of the top vet authority in the country, ANSVSA, comes as an Agriculture Ministry spokesman said the institution did would not exclude the possibility of a new wave of bird flu cases in autumn this year.

While the situation has been improving across the country, experts have warned that the virus stays out there and would not exclude a new H5N1 wave, the spokesman said.
