A woman who a Romanian Liberal senator says is her niece attended the session of the Romanian Parliament on Wednesday and voted a law on Senate agenda in an unprecedented situation for Romania. The vote was caught on camera and shows the young woman taking a Senator’s seat, voting card in hand.

Liberal Senator Norica Nicolai told journalists that the woman was only there as her own niece and did not vote, but according to official lists the individual voted instead of another Liberal Senator, Serban Stratila, who was absent from the session. Stratila said he would not comment on the situation.

On her part, the young lady told journalists she did not vote but only wanted to see "how the buttons work".
