The Romanian Government approved by law a package of measures for developing and extending the Bucharest International airport Henri Coanda, following an increase in the number of passengers and the airplanes employing the airport.

In 2005 the travellers’ number topped 3 mln, up 5 per cent compared to 2004 and would increase to 5 mln passengers until 2008. An increase of 25 per cent was recorded in the airplanes number compared to the previous year. In 2005, 53,500 airplanes were employing the airport, and it was foreseen that the figure would reach 80,000 in 2007.

The infrastructure development workings were declared of public utility which entailed expropriating land owners from the town of Otopeni and the township of Tunari for the airport’s extension. The expropriator in this case is the National Company of International Airport Henri Coanda Bucharest.

The global figure of compensations for the expropriated residences cannot be lower than the authorized evaluator’s figure.
