German meat producer Reinert will open a factory in Romania by the end of 2006, according to CEE-foodindustry.com. The German company hopes to double its production capacity in Romania by 2007.

The website quotes Achim Irimescu, agriculture councillor with the Romanian Mission to the EU, who says the reason for inceasing interest among international companies in the Romanian food market is that the pork consumption in the country keeps rising at a pace of 10% yearly.

And Irimescu believes that pork demand will rise at the pace of the economic growth in the country, as increasing salaries will lead to an increased meat consumption.

It’s the first time Reinert considers a production facility outside Germany. It plans to use its Romanian factory for supplies to the Moldovan Republic, Hungary and Bulgaria as well.
