The Romanian oil group Rompetrol will invest some USD 25 mln. in the exploitation of the natural gas field in the Arges district, close to the national gas distribution network, according to a company press release. The announcement comes as a full-scale inquiry targets members of the Rompetrol management, leading to dropping Stock Exchange quotas for Rompetrol Rafinare.

News agencies reported that the Bucharest Court accepted Monday a request from High Court prosecutors to judge a call to arrest Rompetrol head Dinu Patriciu earlier than initially declared, on February 24 instead of March 3.

Recent developments in the inquiry against Patriciu under organized crime charges led to a fall of Rompetrol shares close to the 15% threshold admitted by market systems, according to a Realitatea TV report.

Rompetrol Group vice-chairman Bogdan Popescu has said about the Golesti investments that the regional expansion of Rompetrol is thus complemented with new domestic activities according to the development strategy of the Group.
