The Romanian president Traian Basescu invited Qatari businesspeople to invest in Romania, a very attractive country in the perspective of the EU accession. He pointed out the best fields for investment: agriculture, energy, and tourism.

„I consider Romania the best place for investments" said Basescu, pointing out the advantages investors benefit of here – single tax, favorable legislation for investments, qualified working force, and a business environment less affected by corruption.

Romania shows a great interest to develop relations with Qatar in the energy sector and looks at the possibility of importing gas from the country.

Traian Basescu had discussions with the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Than on the prospect of developing a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal project in Constanta, the biggest port city in Romania, to serve not only Romanian demands but other countries’ in the region.

The Romanian president met the Qatar Airways president Akbar Al Baker to discuss the opportunity of running a Bucharest- Doha airline that would operate weekly flights.

Qatar is the first state in the Persian Golf area to be visited by the Romanian president, as part of the Romania’s priorities of bolstering relations with the Middle East countries.

Romanian president already visited Jordan and plans to visit Kuwait, the UAE and Libya.

Currently a number of almost 700 Romanians is working in Qatar.
