The car tax that the last Government intended to triple will be only doubled, a new Governmental ordinance decides. The lowest car tax is around 200 Euros, and will be applied to Euro $ models with low emissions rate. Euro 4 new cars with engines under 2 liters will not pay any tax, while SUVs and muscle cars may see taxes over 6,000 Euros. The largest tax is applied to old cars (Euro 2 standards or less) with very strong engines: up to over 15,000 Euros.
The car tax decreased 33%, compared to the level decided at the end of 2008 by the former Government, days before the last elections.
