The IMF delegation will meet on Thursday, in Vienna representatives of those banks who have branches in Romania, to convince them to support the international financial aid for Romania by keeping the money in the country in the next couple of years.

Jeffrey Franks, IMF delegation chief declared for HotNews.ro that they will seek to obtain a written commitment from foreign banks. He declared that such an agreement can also be obtained later on. He explained that the IMF delegation will urge the banks to have a buffer capital for Romania if the situation gets worse and to maintain the money in the country.

There is no legal sanction from the IMF so these agreements will be made on a pure voluntary basis, but it is in their interest to keep them, Franks said.
