Almost one year after debates, the Romanian Government decided to approve the re-structuring of the energetic sector by setting up two giant companies. One of them will be called Electra and its chief is going to be Constantin Balasoiu, an individual supported by PDL, the party in power, currently running the Energy Complex in Craiova (South). The second company is Hidroenergetica. Its future chief is Mihai David, presently Hideoelectrica head and PSD member (the main opposition party).

The name of the second company was changed in the last minute from the initial choice Energetica. "The choice was triggered by continuity and credibility reasons", economy minister Adriean Videanu explained.

Electra society will include the Energetic Complexes in Oltenia (south) - Turceni, Rovinari si Craiova - also Nuclearelectrica, the National Society of Lignite Oltenia (SNLO), three Hidroelectrica branches - SH Valcea, SH Targu Jiu si SH Sibiu - and Hidroserv Ramnicu Valcea.

The other company will be made up by Electrocentrale Bucharest, CTE Deva and CET Paroseni (which belongs to Termoelectrica), Portile de Fier and the rest of Hidroelectrica branches - Sebes, Buzau, Targu Jiu, Caransebes, Hateg, Arges, Cluj, Bistrita - and the National Pit Company (CNH) Petrosani.
