German and the Czech Republic decided to block all contracts and not purchase cucumbers from Romanian producers and from those in the EU until the source of the contamination is established. Romanians export 160 tons of cucumbers each day, Agriculture Ministry state secretary Adrian Radulescu said for a news television.

The decision comes even though tests proved that our vegetables are safe. E.coli cucumbers killed so far 18 people and infected over 2,000 and experts at the WHO are overwhelmed by this situation. The economic effects are disastrous: German farmers lose 4 million euro per day and the business numbers for cucumbers dropped by 90%.

Italian producers have 3 million euro losses daily while the French reported a drop of sales by 80%.
