Romanians wishing to travel to South Africa will be able to receive a visa from Bucharest and not from Budapest as they did so far. South Africa announced the opening of its diplomatic representation to Romania and the consulate will function starting with March 12. A tourist or business visa costs 43 euro.

Foreign Affairs Department head Nyanda Ntsaluba declared that Romanians could now purchase their visas easier. He added that in 2006 the African Embassy issued some 1156 visas and 1125 in 2007.

South African Ambassador to Romania Duduzile Moerane Khoza added that the Embassy will start releasing visas on March 12. The embassy re-opened its gates after 10 years. Nevetheless, Romania still has an Embassy at Cape Town as there is a 3000 Romanian community on the African continent.
