The average temperatures for for April-September 2008 will be above the multi-annual averages and the summer will see temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius but less drought than 2007, the National Meteorologists Association director Ion Sandu said on Monday, quoted by Romanian news agency Mediafax.

According to Sandu, even though rain will fall below the normal average, Romania will not face a severe drought as compared to last year. Moreover, he added that the average temperature will exceed the average by two or three degrees Celsius but periods with high temperatures will not last too long.

Sandu added that temperatures will exceed 40 degrees Celsius but the situation will not be so severe as it did last year. According to meteorologists, February was the driest month in the history of meteorology as they registered only 10 liters of precipitations as compared to the normal average of 30.
