Over 4 million people of the 11 million evaluated within the national health program present a sickness risk. Among these, some 3.323 million, about 30% could develop diabetes, Romanian Health minister Eugen Nicolaescu declared.

Those in danger of major diseases live in Central and South Romania, namely in Cluj, Sibiu and Ilfov counties. People residing in Brasov, Ilfov, Cluj and Arad counties are more prone to develop diabetes than others.

Romanian Health Minister Eugen Nicolaescu declared that women and those living in the urban areas are two times more sensitive than others to develop diabetes. The program's cost amounted to some 300 million euro for its first year of implementation.
