The government decided, on Tuesday to take responsibility in the Parliament for the law on education. The executive took this decision because the law was blocked in the Senate. It is for the second time that the government takes responsibility for the law on education. Last year, a draft set up by the former Democrat Liberal - Social Democratic government was adopted after the government took responsibility for it in the Parliament but the court ruled it unconstitutional.

A new version of the law was adopted by te government this spring, but the project is blocked in the Senate. Education minister Daniel Funeriu declared that the measures in the new law on education are fair and will clean up the universitis in Romania.

The law on education hits those who have unlawful targets in the educational system which is why interest groups in the Senate are blocking the law, Funeriu told the press. According to the Romanian Constitution, the government can take responsibility in the Parliament for a certain law.
