Over 87% of the Romanians believe that the corruption level in Romania increased in the last three years and 83% of them believe that the government is inefficient in its fight against corruption, the Global Corruption Index shows, released on Thursday by Transparency International (TI). If in 2009 just 12% declared that they offered bribe, in the last 12 months their number increased exponentially.

Only 7% of the Romanians believe that the government's measures are efficient. The situation is alarming, a TI press release reads. Parties and the Parliament are considered to be most corrupt. Except for justice, the private sector and press all other institutions are considered to be very corrupt and there are more Romanians who believe that they are corrupt.

Only 3% trust the goverment for its capacity to fight against corruption. Almost 70% of the Romanians believe that the involvement of citizens in anti-corruption actions is important and can cause changes. 80% would support their friends who are actively involved in the fight against corruption and 60% would ge involved in such actions.
