President Traian Basescu presented on Monday night to the Democratic Liberal Party an analysis, according to which, for the benefit of the party, a new strategy and governmental and political reform is needed, PDL sources declared for HotNews.ro. According to them, the President consulted the chiefs of organizations regarding the possibility of a technocrat Prime Minister. Most of them refused the possibility to name an independent PM and pleaded for a political proposal. HotNews.ro sources claim that governor Isarescu did not offer a clear cut answer to the President’s proposal to have him PM.

The same sources claim that in December 2010 the possibility to change the Prime Minister was also tackled and to have a new executive lead by technocrats as well. Governor Isarescu was offered at the time the position but sources said that Romania’s governor conditioned his acceptance on having six ministeries lead by technocrats. It regarded the key ministries like the Finance, Economy and Labour ministries.

Currently, there are three options put forward by the ruling party: to maintain a political PM and maintain Boc as Prime Minister and have Vasile Blaga as President of the party. The second option would be to name Vasile Blaga as Prime Minister and to have Boc run for a second mandate as President of the party. Quoted sources said that Blaga is not interested in the position and neither is the President too happy with such an option.

The third option is to have an independent Prime Minister and have Boc as leader of the party. However, this solution is not viewed wth too much eagerness by leaders of the party’s local organizations.
